Manufacturing and Characterization of Tube-Filled ZA27 Metal Foam Heat Exchangers

This study investigates the heat transfer performance of a novel ZA27 metal foam exchanger. An open-celled is combined with thin-walled copper tube in single-step casting process. The between two separated water streams flowing through and foam, respectively, measured compared to an equivalent shell exchanger arrangement. Heat enhancement up 71% rate exceeding 30 kW are observed attributed increased surface area metallic foam. However, overall was limited by inefficient internal mass stream tube.
